New Animal Shelter Facility

Urgent Need for a New Shelter

Our community animal shelter is facing a crisis. We are operating at double our capacity, housing over 240 animals in a facility built to accommodate just 120. Due to a lack of space, we are forced to turn animals away daily. The current building conditions are deteriorating, and if state officials were to inspect our facility today, we would likely face immediate closure.

Adding to these challenges, the shelter is located next to a railroad track, causing constant noise and distress for already frightened animals. The extreme Texas weather makes matters worse, as many animals are kept outside due to limited indoor space. Additionally, our understaffed facility is struggling to meet the needs of our animals despite the incredible dedication of Ashley and her team, along with a committed group of volunteers.

A Vision for a Better Future

To ensure the safety and well-being of our animals, we have acquired a new building, 2800 Drane Rd. The property was given to us by the city, but it needs a huge overhaul. The new shelter would provide:

· Increased Capacity:Enough space to accommodate more animals safely and humanely.

· Quieter Environment:A location away from constant noise to reduce stress and improve adoption rates.

· Medical and Grooming Facilities: A dedicated lab for shots and minor medical needs for injured animals and a grooming space to keep them healthy and adoptable.

· Play and Exercise Areas: Safe, enclosed outdoor and indoor spaces where animals can exercise and socialize.

· Shower: For the staff to clean up after a hard day of cleaning the shelter

Community and Veterinary Support

Local veterinarians play a crucial role in our shelter's success. By partnering with our community vets, we can establish an on-site spay and neuter program, eliminating the need for frequent trips to Athens and providing essential services to the animals in our care.

We have an outpouring of support from individuals eager to fundraise for this cause. Now that we have the city’s backing, we need to move forward with raising money for the remodel.
